Welcome back, Kyle Schwarber!

The Arizona Fall League was treated to a pleasant surprise last night as Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber was added to the taxi squad for the Mesa Solar Sox and debuted at DH. Schwarber went 0-for-3 on the evening with a walk, rolling overĀ a couple of ground balls to the right side before drawing a free pass in his thirdĀ plate appearance. Schwarber capped-off his evening with a missile to the right-center gap which was run down by speedy center fielder Noel Cuevas (Rockies). 2080’s John Arguello and Alec Dopp were both in attendance for the show and provided video of Schwarber’s pre-game work and all four plate appearances:

Just six months removed from tearing his ACL and LCL in an outfield collision with Dexter Fowler during the opening series of the season, Schwarber is giving the Cubs reason to consider adding him to the World Series roster. With the Indians grabbing home field advantage (thanks to the American League victory in the Mid-Summer Classic), there is at least some consideration being given to Schwarber serving as a designated hitter during the AL-hosted contests, while being available as an off-the-bench bat in the other three games.
