Physical Description
5' 11", 185-pound listing is generous; built more like fullback than a rotation stalwart. Athletic; moves well off the mound; fields position well.
Mechanical Notes
Delivers the ball from a 3/4 arm slot, with moderate excertion. He features a strong, loose arm with fluid actions. Although he repeated his delivery fairly well, Occasionally throws across his body causing balance and landing issues. Some deception exists thanks to his leg kick and late exposure of the ball. Up-tempo pace and varied times to the plate kept batters uncomfortable while holding the running game in check.

Fastball | |||||
Fastball | 50 | 55 | 90-93 | 94 | Pounded the fastball almost exclusively in the lower third of the strike zone throughout the outing. The fastball featured solid-average command and solid glove-side action at its best. When left up in the zone, has propensity to flatten, finding barrels on numerous occasions. Overall, the offering drew weak contact and awkward swings -- thanks to Derby's ability to locate the pitch and regularly add and subtract velo. |

Slider | |||||
Slider | 45 | 55 | 83-85 | 85 | Tight with late break. The offering was fairly horizontal, but it flashed impressive depth and late bite a couple times, leaving reason to dream and see above-average potential. |

ChangeUp | |||||
ChangeUp | 45 | 50 | 81-83 | 84 | Sat in the low 80s, featuring moderate tumbling action. He maintains arm speed and replicates fastball arm action; just failed to replicate as he tends to overthrow. Repetition and continued pro instruction should evolve the offering into an average pitch. |

Overall Summary
Despite featuring a projected solid-average three-pitch arsenal, future will likely be in a relief role of some capacity. His ability to change speeds, throw quality strikes and draw weak contact should make him a valuable asset in the bullpen with spot-starter upside at the major league level.
