It was actually a short, sweet and quiet week in debutante-ville: After our blowout extravaganza during Week 1, where we had 22 players make the list, 12 more come out during Week 2, we did have a “blink-and-you-miss-it-unless you’re one of the three players on the list or their families and loved ones” Week 3. Then an unexpected debutapalooza on Week 4, where 12 more players got the call.

Week 5? Give a high five to … you guessed it … five players.

But of those five, three of them are actually the first players from their respective organizations to make their debuts in 2017!

Right-hander Bobby Wahl is the first Oakland Athletic player to get the call, right-hander Keynan Middleton is the first Angel to earn his major league stripes this spring, and 21-year-old outfield sensation Magneuris Sierra becomes the first Cardinal to be called up to the majors this season.

In case you were wondering (and you were, right? Tell me you were!), that leaves a grand total of FOUR organizations which have yet to send a debutante to the invite-only 2017 Debutantes Ball: The Diamondbacks, Cubs, Astros, and the Brewers are the only teams holding out on a Debutante promotion to-date.

If we had giveaway swag, I’d suggest a contest where you could COMMENT ON THIS STORY (because, you know, you CAN do that if you want to! See links above for Twitter and Facebook) and predict which organization you think will be the LAST one to send a deb to the ball, but we’re still working on the giveaway swag, so that’s not an option yet. So for some extra credit from Ms. Winston (the strict schoolmarm with a three-foot ruler in her hand), who do you think that player will be? Just for kicks and giggles.

In the meantime, enjoy, have an awesome May, get out to some games and root for players.  Catch a minor league team near you so that when players you see now make THEIR debuts, you can share your thoughts and projections with us here!

And a little sidebar from me: I just walked a BOATLOAD of miles to raise money to combat breast cancer (thank you, AVON39: Walk To End Breast Cancer) and I’m going to take a hot bath and WATCH SOME BASEBALL!!!!

For anyone who might be interested in learning more about the AVON39: Walk To End Breast Cancer, or to make a donation, or refer a friend, or consider participating in future events, you can visit the official site here. If your life has been touched by breast cancer (and, really, whose life hasn’t, between friends, loved ones and relatives?) this is a countrywide spring-summer-autumn-wide event you might want to learn more about! So I want to extend my MANY MANY THANKS to the Washington Nationals for opening up Nationals Park (and their racing icon George Washington) to the several thousand D.C. AVON39 participants, friends, and loved ones to be the events’ finish line and celebration station!
