Though the penultimate week of the 2017 regular season was a quiet one overall on the Debutantes Ball front, it started in semi-pseudo-kinda-sorta-historic season as the lone debutante of Monday night, Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva, became our 259th deb of the season, eclipsing our 2016 season total of 258 (this is only our second season in existence, but a record is a record is a record).

And by week’s end, that number had blossomed to … 261. Yeah, it was resoundingly silent here in Deb-land. Your humble scribe almost did a “tap tap tap … is this thing on?”

Looking ahead to next week, our final week, while looking back to last year, only one player – Washington Nationals catcher Spencer Kieboom – debuted in the final week of regular-season play, getting into the game on the final day of the season.

Maybe … maybe … someone will come up this week and not leave us hanging out here high and dry with not a single debutante to share with you in our final week.

But fear not … I will still provide my season-ending recap with a look at our (261? More perhaps?) Debutantes By The Numbers to put a pretty bow on things as we head into that long, hard slog we call the offseason.
