Debut Details
July 1, in a 2-1 Nationals’ loss to the Cardinals. Sanchez was thrust into a big moment for his major league debut. With his team down 2-1 in the top of the ninth, Sanchez was sent into the game to pinch-hit with the bases loaded and two outs. He fell behind Cardinals’ reliever Matt Bowman 0-2 and then battled back to 3-2 before fouling off two more pitches. On the ninth pitch of the at-bat, Sanchez took a called strike three that looked by many measures to be a few inches outside. |
Player Notes
Sanchez began his professional career as a teenager with the Nationals in 2007 and he stuck with the organization for nearly a decade before finally receiving the call to the big leagues. Eligible for minor league free agency each of the past two seasons, Sanchez re-signed with Washington each time. He has only 81 games of experience at the Triple-A level. Sanchez can play third base, shortstop and second base, and shows excellent barrel control and average foot speed. |
