In the top of the fourth, Mejia came to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs. He got the ball into the air in the outfield, but not deep enough to send home the runner. Player Notes
A University of Arizona alum, Mejia got to make his debut not far from where he went to college. Mejia spent six years in the Cardinals’ chain before getting the call to the big leagues. He wasn’t even on the 40-man roster at any point before his big league promotion. Mejia has struggled with a variety of injuries throughout his career, including an ACL tear during his first season as a pro. He doesn’t have a lot of power, but Mejia is a grinder at the plate. Defensively, he is sure-handed, and has shown good instincts despite not having a lot of foot speed. He is a natural shortstop who can also move around to second base and third base.
