Player Notes
One of - if not THE - top prospect in the Jays' system, Alford's early career was slowed as he continued to play college football the first few years (as quarterback at Southern Mississippi and defensive back at Ole Miss) before giving up the sport after the 2014 season. Drafted originally out of Petal (Miss.) High School, his tools - when not hampered by injuries - include plus speed, plus power potential, plate discipline and good range in the outfield. In 2016 at Dunedin (High A) he batted .236 with nine home runs, 44 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 92 games after combining to hit .298 with four home runs, 35 RBIs and 27 steals in 107 games between Lansing (Class A) and Dunedin in 2015. Prior to that, he'd appeared in just 25 games combined between 2012-2014.
