Player Notes
Wahl was drafted out of the University of Mississippi and it's only an assortment of injuries (including a nerve impingement in his right arm and an oblique issue) that has slowed his ascent to the big leagues. His fastball touches triple digits and he adds a plus curveball, though there's been some inconsistency along the way. In 2016, his 14 saves between Stockton (High A), Midland (Double-A) and Nashville led the Athletics organization as he combined for a 2.65 ERA in 45 games, striking out 65 batters in 54 1/3 innings and walking 28 while giving up 36 hits for a .194 bating average against. He spent much of 2015 on the DL, though. He is the first Oakland player to make his big league debut this season, one of three debutantes this week to hold the same distinction in their respective organizations.
