Player Notes
Moncrief, now in his 10th pro season, was originally drafted by the Indians out of Chipola Junior College in Florida as a pitcher in 2008, but after shoulder injuries he requested a move to the outfield and the Cleveland player development folks were happy to comply. He moved to the outfield in 2010 and has seen action in all three spots. He rose steadily through the Indians' farm system after the conversion, spending full seasons at Lake County (Class A) in 2011, Carolina (High A) in 2012, Akron (Double-A) in 2013 and Columbus (Triple-A) in 2014, showing some power and a solid enough bat during that rise, including a .271 average with 12 home runs and 63 RBIs in 132 games at Columbus. In 2015, he took a step backwards offensively as he split the season between Akron and Columbus, combining to hit .227 in 113 games with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs. A minor league free agent at season's end, he signed with the Giants a week after declaring free agency and spent 2016 at Richmond (Double-A) where he batted .261 but his power dipped to just five homers. He spent his last two years with the Indians on the 40-man roster but his promotion to the bigs is his first return to that status since after 2015.
