He came on for right-handed starter Trevor Williams to start the top of the fifth and retired Ichiro Suzuki on a grounder to first on his first pitch. After striking out Christian Yelich swinging, he gave up a double to left by Marcell Ozuna. J.T. Realmuto followed with an RBI double to left to score Ozuna and Derek Dietrich collected an infield single to move Realmuto to third before Tyler Moore struck out looking on three pitches.

Player Notes
Santana has consistently, albeit quietly, been putting up the numbers and setting down the batters since making his pro debut in the DSL in 2014, though 2016 marked his full-season debut. That summer, he combined at three levels -- Bradenton (High A), Altoona (Double-A) and Indianapolis -- to go 4-1 with a 2.71 ERA in 43 games out of the pen, striking out 71 while walking just 19 and allowing 67 hits in 79 2/3 innings for a .229 BAA. His slider is his best pitch but his fastball has also been known to touch triple digits.
