Debut Details
July 30, in a 10-6 loss to the Rockies. The starting pitcher in Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader prompted by a rainout the previous night, he was the starting pitcher and took the loss, allowing seven runs, five of them earned, in four innings, allowing 10 hits and walking two while striking out three. Of 89 pitches thrown 55 were for strikes and he also hit a batter. In the first inning, Charles Blackmon singled to center, D.J. LeMahieu singled to right and Nolan Arednado drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. After Gerardo Parra hit into a 4-6-3 double play scoring Blackmon and moving LeMahieu to third. Raimel Tapia then singled to right to score LeMahieu with the second run of the inning before Carlos Gonzalez grounds out to end the inning. In the second, Washington fans got to see what they'd been waiting for from Fedde as he struck out the side: Trevor Story looking, Ryan Hanigan swinging and Kyle Freeland looking. In the third, Blackmon led off with a line drive single to center and scored on LeMahieu's double to center. After Arenado singled, also to center, Parra grounded into a 6-3 double play, allowing LeMahieu to score from third, before Tapia ended the inning grounding out to shortstop. In the fourth, Gonzalez reached on an infield single an Story walked before Hanigan singled to right field. Gonzalez scored on Hanigan's single and Story was awarded third base on an E6 (obstruction) by shortstop Adrian Sanchez. After Freeland was out on a bunt attempt, Blackmon singled to right field to score Story. LeMahieu then reached on a 1-2 fielder's choice to nail Hanigan at home (and who had advanced to third behind Story and was attempting to score). Arenado's ensuing single to center scored Blackmon with the third run of the inning before Parra grounded out to second to end the inning.

Player Notes
Fedde, a UNLV product, widely considered to be the Nationals' top pitching prospect, got the call when a starting pitcher was needed to replace injured ace Stephen Strasburg in the rotation when Strasburg went on the DL due to a nerve impingement in his elbow. Armed with a wipeout slider as his out pitch, a sinking fastball in the low-to-mid 90s and an improving changeup, Fedde brings a career 3.36 ERA over 262 1/3 career innings to the bigs. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2014, he "slipped" in the draft to #18 overall after having been considered a Top 10 lock after going 8-2 with a 1.76 ERA with 82 strikeouts in 77 innings his junior year. He made his pro debut in 2015, combining between Auburn (Short-Season A) and Hagerstown (Class A) for a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts, striking out 59 in 64 innings while walking 16 and allowing 62 hits. In 2016, he split his season between Potomac (High A) and Harrisburg, going 8-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 23 games, fanning 123 while walking just 29 in 121 innings, giving up 118 hits.
