Debut Details
June 29, in a 10-4 loss to his original organization, the St. Louis Cardinals. Vargas wasn’t in the starting line-up for the D-Backs in his first day in the big leagues, but he came into the game at second base in the top of the eighth as part of a double-switch. Vargas led off the bottom of the eighth and struck-out on three pitches against lefty Tyler Lyons.

Player Notes
Originally signed all the way back in 2007 by the Cardinals, Vargas was a bit of a late bloomer. In seven-plus seasons in the Cardinals’ chain, Vargas played just eight games above the A-level baseball. His career changed after signing with the D-backs as a free agent midway through the 2015 season. He spent the majority of the 2016 season in Double-A and Triple-A, hitting .283 for Double-A Mobile and .354 for Triple-A Reno. The D-backs added Vargas to the 40-man roster in November. Vargas hasn’t duplicated his success from 2016 with Reno in 2017, but he is still hitting for average with the Aces. Defensively, Vargas has played mostly second base this season, but has also seen time at shortstop, third base and center field.
