Debut Details
July 1, in a 5-3 Reds’ win over the Cubs. After spending five days with the Reds without making his debut in late May/early June, Stephens finally got his opportunity to appear in a big league game when he started against the Cubs. Stephens struck-out the first batter he faced, Jon Jay, and would go on to earn the win. He went five innings, allowing three runs (all in the third inning) on six hits and one walk. Stephens struck-out eight. He threw 91 pitches, 64 for strikes. All three runs against him came on third-inning homers. Jay got him for a solo blast with one out in the inning and Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer with two-outs in the third. Stephens would allow only one more hit – a single – the rest of his outing. Stephens helped his own cause at the plate, collecting his first major league hit in the fourth inning, a two-out, two-run single that put the Reds ahead for good.
