Player Notes
Drafted out of Olympia High School in Orlando with the 49th overall selection in 2012, Winker has been one of the brightest future stars in the Reds' stratosphere. He's ranked among the organization's top performers when it comes to getting on base over the last few years, but a variety of wrist injuries slowed his ascension though the minors. A discplined hitter with raw power to all fields, he'd been putting up very solid numbers across the board in his initial climb through the system but suffered a wrist injury diving for a ball in the outfield at Pensacola (Double-A) towards the end of 2014. While he led the organization in average (.282), OBP (.390), slugging (.433), hits (125), total bases (192) and walks (74) with the Blue Wahoos in 2015, he was doing it at slightly less than full health as the wrist continued to be an issue. A second wrist injury interrupted his 2016 season as he spent a little rehab time in the Rookie Arizona League but still stood out at the plate in his Triple-A debut at Louisville that summer. An excellent pure hitter with minimal speed and average defense, he is absolutely one to watch.
