Player Notes
Drafted out of Fresno State, where he was teammates and remains good friends with AL Rookie of the Year favorite Aaron Judge of the Yankees, Luplow spent just a month at Triple-A before his surprise call-up to the Pirates. But in need of a legit fourth outfielder who can play all three positions, as Luplow can, with OF Gregory Polanco on the disabled list, the California native was the choice. He plays plus defense and while not a speedster can run the bases more than adequately. He batted .254 with 10 home runs and 54 RBIs at Bradenton (High A) in 2016, .264 with 12 homers, 67 RBIs and 36 doubles at West Virginia (Class A) in 2015 and .277 with six home runs and 30 RBIs in his pro debut at Jamestown (Short-Season A) in 2014. Overall, he's slashed .272/.367/.465 in 366 career games before his MLB debut.
