Player Notes
One of the youngest players in the majors, just a month past his 21st birthday, Sierra is also one of the most exciting, as he makes the huge jump from High-A Palm Beach to the big leagues. He joins Padres rookie catcher Luis Torrens and Dodgers ace-in-training Julio Urias as the lone trio of 21-year-olds. The first St. Louis player to make his debut this season, he has excellent baseball instincts, blazing speed and great skills in the outfield, and as his .307 average at Peoria (Class A) in 2016 shows, his bat ain't bad either. The Gulf Coast League MVP in 2014 when he batted .386, Sierra has earned several organizational accolades from Baseball America, including Best Athlete, Fastest Baserunner, Best Defensive Outfielder and Best Outfield Arm and was their No. 5 prospect for the system. Always one of the youngest players in his league, in 2016 he led the organization with 161 hits and 78 runs and was also top five in doubles (29) and steals, as he batted .307 with three home runs, 60 RBIs and 31 stolen bases in 122 games.
