Player Notes
The Virginia Tech product joined the club when the Cubs decided to allow struggling 2016 standout Kyle Schwarber work through his troubles in the minors, and immediately installed Zagunis in right field his first night. A Carolina League (High A) All-Star in his first full season (2015), Zagunis has moved swiftly through the ranks thanks to outstanding strike zone discipline, and was slotted by 2080 Baseball as the 8th-ranked prospect in the system. A converted catcher, his 2016 season ended early when he was hit by a pitch and suffered a broken toe but he'd combined to hit .288 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs along with 25 doubles between Tennessee (Double-A) and Iowa before the injury to go with a .469 SLG. He owns a career slash line of .275/.401/.441.
