Debut Details
April 3, in a 14-3 loss to the Dodgers. The third of five pitchers, he tossed 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out one batter. Coming on in relief of reliever and RHP Christian Bethancourt with two outs and one on in the bottom of the fifth inning, the first pitch he threw was a wild pitch but he then got Adrian Gonzalez to ground out to first base to end the threat. He pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning, getting Logan Forsythe to fly out to center, Joc Pederson to strike out looking and Yasmani Grandal to ground out to first. He threw 15 pitches, 10 of them for strikes.

Player Notes
The first player selected in the 2016 Rule 5 Draft, Diaz boasts a fastball in the low to-mid 90s and a slider, and enjoyed a fine stateside debut last summer in the Class A Midwest League. He has good stuff and continues to improve his control and command. He brings a career 3.51 ERA into the 2017 season, striking out 222 in 236 innings while walking just 90 and limiting opposing hitters to a .233 average.
