July 1, in a 4-3 A’s loss to the Atlanta Braves. Blackburn made his major league debut in front of many friends and family at the Oakland Coliseum, which is roughly 30 minutes from where he grew up. The right-hander was impressive in six innings against the Braves, allowing just an unearned run on three hits, one walk and one hit batsman. Blackburn threw 96 pitches on the afternoon, 63 for strikes. He struck-out four, with his first coming when he got Nick Markakis swinging in the first inning. A ground ball pitcher, Blackburn recorded nine outs on the ground in his debut. He left in the sixth inning with the game knotted at 1 to get a ND.

Player Notes
Blackburn reached the big leagues in his first season as a member of the A’s organization. The right-hander was the Cubs’ Compensation Round A (#56 overall) selection in 2012 out of Heritage H.S. (Brentwood, CA). He moved slowly but steadily through the Cubs’ organization until midway through last year, when he was one of two prospects traded at the deadline to the Mariners for LHP Mike Montgomery. Blackburn got only a half season with the Mariners before being dealt again, this time to the A’s. He was added to Oakland’s 40-man roster before the 2017 season. Blackburn was recently named to the Pacific Coast League’s All-Star team and was second in the league in ERA at the time of his promotion.
