Coming on to start the bottom of the eighth inning in relief of right-handed reliever Carlos Estevez, he got Joe Panik to fly out to right field to lead off the inning. He then struck Conor Gillaspie out swinging but Gillaspie reached when the third strike was a wild pitch. However, Denard Span followed by flying out to center field and Brandon Belt ended the threat when he popped out to shortstop.

Player Notes
Carle has been a workhorse during his career, combining in 2015 between New Britain (Double-A) and Albuquerque to go 14-8 with a 3.68 ERA in 27 starts, including three complete games and two shutouts, walking just 32 while fanning 103 in 166 1/3 innings and giving up 176 hits. While his hits:innings pitched numbers over his career haven't been eye-opening, with 526 hits over 468 1/3 innings, he has also always had an excellent walks:innings pitched ratio, making many of those hits ground balls. He has allowed a .284 average against him over his four-plus seasons.
