Debut Details
April 6, in a 7-4 win over the Phillies. The starting catcher, he batted eighth and went 0-for-3 with an RBI and also picked a player off. In his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning, he struck out looking with two outs against Phillies starter and RHP Clay Buchholz. In the bottom of the fourth, he came up with the bases loaded and no one out and hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Eugenio Suarez. In the bottom of the sixth, with one out, he grounded out to shortstop. In his final at-bat in the bottom of the eighth, he lined out to right. On defense, he also picked off fellow debutante, Phillies catcher Andrew Knapp, at second base in the sixth inning.

Player Notes
Named the best defensive catcher in the Reds' farm system by Baseball America before the 2017 season, Turner provides plus defense and smarts behind the plate. A standout at LSU-Eunice (his hometown) as a junior college player, he transferred to Ole Miss where his 4.0 GPA earned him Academic All-American status in 2012. Bringing a .241 career average into the 2017 season, he'd spent the last two seasons at Chattanooga (Double-A) where Baseball America also dubbed him the Southern League's best defensive catcher.
