Player Notes
Originally a second-round pick of the Braves in 2013 out of Miami-Dade C.C., Caratini joined the Cubs in 2014 in a July trade deadline deal that sent LF Emilio Bonifacio and LHP James Russell to the Braves. Caratini has moved steadily up the Cubs’ chain since the deal, advancing a level a year. This season in Triple-A, Caratini was in the middle of his best offensive season at the time of his call-up. As of his promotion, Caratini was fourth in the Pacific Coast League in batting and 12th in OPS. The man Caratini replaces on the Cubs’ roster, Montero, struggled to throw out base-stealers this season. Caratini threw out 28% of would-be base-stealers with the Iowa Cubs. He began his career as a third baseman and he can also play first base.
