Debut Details
April 3, in an 8-5 win over the Rangers. The starting third baseman, he batted eighth and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. His first big-league hit came with one out in the seventh against Rangers starting RHP Yu Darvish when he lined a double into left field and came around to score on a pair of wild pitches by Darvish. In his first at-bat of the game he struck out looking on three pitches. He reached base in his second at-bat in the fifth on an error before being erased at home on a 1-2-3 double play, and grounded out to third base in his final at-bat of the night.

Player Notes
The Cuban-born Diaz was one of the top performers in the minors in 2016. His combined .318 average between his two stops ranked fifth among minor league third basemen, and he posted a 28-game hitting streak at Columbus which fell just one game shy of best in the minors. The International League Rookie of the Year led the league with a .399 OBP and Baseball America lauded him for his strike zone discipline and ranked him the No. 11 prospect in the Indians organization. Boasting a career .307 average coming into the 2017 season, he has posted a 198:191 BB:SO rate and a career .403 OBP. He also has versatility in the field where he can play second and third base as well as all three outfield positions.
