Debut Details
August 27, in a 7-1 loss to the White Sox. The last of three pitchers, he came on for right-handed reliever Drew VerHagen to start the eighth and allowed two runs on three hits in one inning, walking one and striking out one while throwing one wild pitch. Of 26 pitches thrown, 18 were for strikes. Jose Abreu led off with a single to left and Avisail Garcia followed with another single to left. After Matt Davidson flew out to right to move Abreu to third, putting runners on the corners, Kevan Smith delivered a sacrifice fly to center and Avisail Garcia moved to second. With Leury Garcia up, Reininger threw the wild pitch that moved Avisail Garcia to third. Leury Garcia drew the walk to put runners at the corners again and Yolmer Sanchez singled to right to score Avisail Garcia. Reininger then bore down and struck out Adam Engel looking at three 95-plus mph fastballs. (And if you thought this sounded confusing to read, wait until the White Sox activate WILLY Garcia from the DL).

Player Notes
Drafted out of Hill College in Texas, Reininger brings a high-90s fastball and plus slider to the mix when he's healthy. Out virtually all of 2016 and most of 2015 following Tommy John surgery performed in June 2015, he's been taking no prisoners since returning to the mound. In 2016, he didn't allow a run in eight rehab outings between the Rookie Gulf Coast League team and Lakeland (High A), fanning 13 in 11 2/3 innings while allowing four hits and walking four. He'd made his pro debut in 2013 by posting a 1.00 ERA in 22 games at Connecticut (Short-Season A), converting 10 out of 11 save attempts and striking out 32 while walking six in 27 innings, allowing 17 hits for a .172 BAA.
