After failing to come to an agreement as a second round selection in 2015, Singer enters his junior campaign as a top follow and potential top 10 pick. Singer was impressive in his season opening start on Friday against Siena, allowing one unearned run on two hits over seven innings, while striking out eight compared to just one walk.

Tall, lean, and narrow through the shoulders, the baby faced Singer has plenty of room to fill out as he matures. Using an abbreviated windup, Singer’s delivery is up tempo with long and loose arm action that he manages to repeat fairly well. Not afraid to challenge hitters inside, Singer utilizes a low ¾ arm slot that augments his tremendous arm side run on his mid-90s fastball which makes for uncomfortable at-bats for right handed hitters. Because the arm angle is so low however, his fastball can occasionally flatten out, negating the natural leverage one would expect from a 6’5” pitcher. Singer displayed feel for his changeup in the opener, eliciting swings and misses throughout evening. Thrown with confidence in any count, the pitch offers above average deception and tumble, parachuting out of the zone. Though he wasn’t able to locate it as well as his fastball and changeup, Singer’s slider gives him a third above average-to-plus offering capable of missing bats. With moderate depth and bite, this pitch didn’t match the effectiveness he showed at the culmination of the Gators’ National Championship run last season.

Singer’s unconventional mechanics make him somewhat of a polarizing prospect atop the 2018 MLB Draft rankings, though his advanced repertoire, track record for success and projectability enhance his appeal.
