Draft Spotlight

A Florida commit, Acton demonstrated a well-rounded game in four contests during USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational, flashing good hands at second and a compact stroke from the left side in the box. Acton finished the tournament with four hits (three singles and a double) in 14 plate appearances, including a walk-off single against Sandra Day O’Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.) in American Heritage’s (Plantation, Fla.) final game.

Acton took an aggressive approach to the plate, often attacking the ball early in the count and showing good feel for the barrel while alternating between hitting in front of and behind fellow MLB Draft standout Triston Casas (3B).

Acton is an average runner who should stick up the middle at the next level, most likely at second base where his range and arm fit best. He could be a contributor as an underclassman for the Gators as early as next year and could grow into a potential Day 1 target with continued development in Gainesville. At present, he projects to come off the board in the fourth to sixth round range.
