Draft Spotlight

A divisive prospect during last summer’s showcase circuit, Gray helped quell some concerns about his offensive profile by putting together a strong showing at this year’s USA Baseball National High School Invitational. Gray showed off a slightly more compact stroke at the plate and finished the tournament with a slash line of .364/.562/.545 over 16 plate appearances, drawing five walks in the process and striking out three times. He flashed some gap pop in his swing, as well, to go with plus speed and gliding strides out of the box.

Gray shows athletic actions in center field and an ability to close quickly on balls. As he continues to improve he should blossom into a consistently above-average defender up-the-middle on the grass.

The Ole Miss commit still has questions surrounding the overall state of his game, and whether or not the bat is ready for pro ball. Still, his solid performance last week in front of dozens of decision makers should help solidify his spot as an early-round target for the June draft, with his performance in team workouts likely to weigh heavily into his final landing spot come June.
