The Potential Tools: 60 hit, 60 glove, 55 run, 50 power, 50 arm Strengths: Plus athleticism; above-average reads and efficient routes; plus range in center field; average arm with accuracy; above-average bat speed; simple set up and approach; short, compact swing; exceptional hand-eye coordination; natural feel for hitting; keen approach and pitch selection; natural lift through hitting zone; will use all fields; strength in core and wrists; deceptively strong; above-average raw power; above-average run; quick-twitch athlete with explosive first speed; high baseball IQ. Weaknesses: Small stature and strength/weight needed to handle 162-game workload; power could play well below projection; arm utility is questionable; no upper-minors experience; limited pro resume. Role Ceiling: 55; above average regular in center field. Risk: Moderate; strength/weight needed; no upper-minors experience. Summary: As a high school senior, Benintendi showed five-tool talent, but he was virtually unsignable out of his Arkansas commit. Spending two years with the Razorbacks paid dividends for him, proving he was worth a top ten overall pick. Benintendi has a natural feel at the plate and an advanced approach for a college bat. With plus bat speed, and the ability to use all fields, Benintendi projects to have a plus hit tool, and with some added strength and consistency with lifting the ball, average power could be a real possibility. In center field, he gets plus reads and takes efficient routes to both gaps, and he pairs those skills with an average arm. His solid-average run rounds out his profile. All-in, Benintendi is a safe major leaguer and potential above-average regular. |
