Rocchio signed for $125K in last year’s J2 period, which looks like a steal now that he played his way to the Arizona League as a 17-year-old. He slashed .323/.391/.434 across 25 DSL games before keeping up the pace upon reaching the AZL with a .323/.389/.448 line. His instincts and polish are impressive for his age, and a well-rounded toolset caught my eye across a short look in August.
Built with a projectable and athletic build, there’s more strength in his frame than a 5-foot-10 and 150-pound listing suggest. Rocchio has loose, whippy batspeed from both sides of the plate and makes a lot of contact. He showed plus range and soft hands at shortstop with an advanced game clock and ability to finish plays. Rocchio has turned heads this summer in the AZL and will be an interesting follow through instructs and into 2019.
