The Kansas prep product signed an over-slot bonus of $501,300 out of the sixth round by the Angels in the 2016 as a projectible 6’4” potential starting pitcher. He’s added some weight since the draft, and in both my March and May looks, he worked his fastball at 88-to-91 mph, and he flashed a noticeable command improvement in the later look. His 80-to-81 mph slider is his best secondary offering, but in both looks he struggled to locate in the zone, and location was also an issue with his in-development changeup. Duensing should fill into his body and add strength, which should help stabilize a delivery that he was not repeating consistently. He’s a project with lots of work ahead, both in terms of commanding the repertoire, and in developing the secondaries.
