Prospect Spotlight

Greene’s frame and power stuff have always been interesting, but significant control issues cloud his long-term value. Like most big arms who walk hitters in the rotation, Greene first moved to a relief role. The walks persisted there, though, and Greene recorded more free passes than strikeouts from the ‘pen in Triple-A with St. Louis in 2018. The Cardinals sent him to Fall League to get more work as a reliever, but he didn’t perform much better there. He was DFA’d this November and claimed by Kansas City on waivers, so Greene starts 2019 on the Royals’ 40-Man Roster. The rebuilding Royals will take a chance on his upper-90s fastball and bevy of hard off-speed pitches in hopes Greene finds a home in a middle relief role.
