Del Villar signed with St. Louis for $225 in July of 2017. He spent last summer in the DSL as a 17-year-old, faring decently for a young player still growing into his body. He turned 18 this off-season, so there’s still plenty of time for the tools and physicality to take steps forward. Del Villar is a live-bodied 6-footer with athletic twitch throughout. His actions at shortstop are smooth, and he shows the hitting mechanics for contact as he adds muscle. He’s still adding batspeed, as a youthful frame has yet to grow into its man strength and can’t turn around on premium velocity quite yet. Del Villar is a well-rounded player with projection to his tools across the board, though no aspect of his game is loud enough to factor into the FV 40 tier or higher at this time. He’s a player to check back in on down the road to see how much progress has been made once he reaches a higher minor league level. |
