Prospect Spotlight

NOTES FROM THE FIELD, INSTRUCTS:

  • Average height and build with some mass in backside. No projection; player had Tommy John Surgery and missed 2018 season.
  • Funky stretch-only with effort; stays closed off to 3B- side; creates deception coming back across body w/ 3/4 slot and plus extension.
  • FB 93-97, (95-96); Gets plus extension to generate excellent plane; showed ability to locate to both glove and armside; command loose up in zone.  With pro dev step forward in command, projects to above-average fastball.
  • CB 81-83; Inconsistent depth and shape ranging from 12-6 CB shape to sweepier slider look. Raw at present, doesn’t show hard enough depth to project above future 45 pitch.
  • Will throw FB for strikes in RP stints. Pitch movement and velocity allow margin for error in zone. CB will not be consistent strike pitch, but potential for chases; projects for average control.

SUMMARY:  Middle relief upside with future above-average fastball and fringe-average curveball. Upside for leverage relief if curve or command take larger steps forward; coming off Tommy John Surgery and could have more in tank.
