Prospect Spotlight

NOTES FROM THE FIELD, INSTRUCTS:

  • XXL frame, broad shoulders and hips, still lean through arms/legs and will get stronger. Built like Miguel Castro (BAL). 
  • Stretch only, unathletic and uncoordinated operation. Rigid, off-line arm-circle exposes shoulder, effort through H3/4 slot.
  • FB 93-96 (95); Plus velo, heavy ball with steep downhill plane when angled low. All thrower, no feel, 30-grade command.
  • Threw one SL (84 mph) and CB (77 mph), both showing below-average action. Limited confidence in secondary. 
  • Poor pitchability and control. Big guy with a power arm, just out there chucking and relying on big FB to do the work. 

SUMMARY: Likely winds up a non-prospect, imposing frame and fastball make him a longshot bullpen follow for now. Will fall short of the big leagues if control and off-speed don’t start to turn a corner soon.
