Prospect Spotlight

NOTES FROM THE FIELD:

  • Short, muscular frame. Strong core and lower-half. Similar to Reynaldo Lopez (CWS).
  • Semi-windup, athletic operation but wild at finish, falls off-line. Plunge arm-circle, inverted-w at foot-strike, fast 3/4 slot.
  • FB 88-93 (91); Mixes 4sm and 2sm, the latter showing long armside run. Flashes sequences of command to lower-third, but mechanical effort costs him consistency hitting spots. Could throw a tick harder if he was pitching in a short-stint role. 
  • SL 78-84; Mixes looks, can show like a slider or deeper slurve at lower velo range. 
  • CH 82-85; Shows more to LHH, playable pitch with fair separation and armspeed sell. 
  • Inconsistent strikethrower who might wind up in the ‘pen if he can’t limit walks better. 

SUMMARY: Has big league ingredients: could have a solid-avg FB in short stints, backed up by two playable secondary pitches. Ceiling of middle reliever or swingman type (FV 40).
