Prospect Spotlight

Originally born in New York, Rosario moved to the Dominican Republic where he signed with the Yankees for $300K in the 2017 J2 period. He’s a good mix of present physicality and future projection at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds. Rosario’s calling card is left-handed raw power, stemming from explosive batspeed and an ability to square up the ball on his pitch. As with many young power bats, there’s plenty of present swing-and-miss, as he gets long and expands the zone. Rosario doesn’t ID secondary pitches well, and the hit tool lags behind the power. He’s a left fielder at the next level, unlikely to profile higher on the defensive spectrum as he continues filling out a large frame.

A high risk/high reward prospect still numerous years away from being big league ready, Rosario’s chance for 70 raw power makes him an interesting follow. His hitting ability and approach aren’t ready for a full-season assignment yet, and he might need another few months at the complex level to iron out parts of his swing.
