Vest only pitched his junior year at Stephen F. Austin, but his quality athleticism and arm speed were enough for the Tigers to select him in the 12th round of last year’s draft. His fastball shows above-average, two-seam life at 93-to-94 mph, and it plays as a plus offering due to above-average control. He is still learning to sequence his pitches, as he showed hitters his fastball exclusively before wrinkling in secondary offerings when he was ahead with two strikes. A slider at 85-to-86 mph showed late action, but it was inconsistent and likely has, at best, average projection. His changeup is in the nascent stages; thrown only to lefties, it is firm and lacks movement. Despite less than two years full time on the mound, Vest will be challenged with an early assignment to the Florida State League. The ceiling is that of a middle reliever.
