Player Notes
Now in his eighth pro season, it's hard to believe that Chacin has flown so far under the radar, no less that he escaped being scooped up in the 2016 Rule 5 Draft, after having led the organization and the Southern League with 30 saves at Pensacola (Double-A) in 2016, posting a 1.78 ERA in 52 games and striking out 75 in 60 2/3 innings, walking 26 and allowing 51 hits for a .229 BAA. He'd been treading water (pretty masterfully) at Dayton (Class A) for three years running, with a 2.91 ERA and a .181 BAA in 2013, a 2.34 ERA and 20 saves to go with a .216 BAA in 2014, and then combining between Dayton and Daytona (High A) in 2015 for a 3.33 ERA, going 11-for-12 in save opportunities while striking out 72 in 51 1/3 innnings, walking 15 and allowing 39 hits for a .209 BAA. He throws a sinking fastball in the low 90s, a solid changeup and a slurve for his third pitch when needed. Just turned 24, he's not exactly over the hill yet.
