Player Notes
Drafted out of the University of Florida, Maddox the plast to be cut from the 25-man roster in a competition for the last bullpen spot. He did a good job of convincing the Sox to bring him back in his first two-plus months throwing for both Portland (Double-A) and Pawtucket (Triple-A). Armed with a fastball in the low 90s, a slider and a changeup, he comes off of a 2016 season where he combined between Salem (High A), Portland and Pawtucket to go 5-3 with 3.59 ERA in 39 games, striking out 64 in 67 2/3 innings while walking 25 and allowing 62 hits. He missed much of both the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Salem due to off-the-field issues, with his last full season coming at Greenville (Class A) in 2013 when he went 4-6 with a 5.63 ERA in 33 games, striking out 65 while walking 22 and allowing 109 hits in 88 innings.
