Debut Details
June 14, in a 10-6 win over the White Sox. The starting DH, he batted eighth and went 0-for-4. In the second inning against right-handed starter Miguel Gonzalez he struck out swinging on three pitches. In the fourth inning he struck out swinging on three pitches with the bases loaded and no outs. In the fifth inning he lined out to center. In the seventh, facing right-handed reliever Juan Minaya, he struck out swinging on three pitches.

Originally drafted out of high school in Southern California by the Cardinals, Washington put up some huge numbers in his walk year in their minor league system in 2016, hitting a combined .259 with 30 home runs and 77 RBIs in 127 games for a .532 SLG between Springfield (Double-A) and Memphis (Triple-A), leading the St. Louis system in home runs and RBIs and leading the Pacific Coast League in HR/AB ratio (13.80). Despite consistently strong power numbers, 2016 marked the first time Washington had reached Triple-A in his eight pro seasons. In 2015, he combined between Palm Beach (High A) and Springfield to bat .249 with 16 home runs, 17 doubles and 53 RBIs.
