Debut Details
June 28, in a 5-3 Giants’ win over the Rockies. Hwang got the start at third base. He had only one hit in his four at-bats, but it was a memorable one. In the sixth inning, Hwang took a 2-0 pitch from lefty Kyle Freeland and deposited into the left field bleachers. The homer broke a tie and helped the Giants earn a sweep over Colorado.

Player Notes
Hwang spent 10 years in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) before signing a minor league deal with the Giants this offseason. He hit 53 home runs over his final two seasons in the KBO, and he hit those homers with style, gaining international fame for his bat flips. He showed some power (as well as bat-flip restraint) during his half-season with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. Hwang split his time defensively between third and first base with Sacramento. He also made two brief appearances in left field.
