April 14, in a 3-2 win over the Mets. The third of six pitchers, he walked one and struck out one in one hitless inning. Of 18 pitches thrown, 11 were for strikes. Starting the sixth inning in relief of right-handed reliever Dustin McGowan, he walked Jose Reyes, who moved to third on a sacrifice bunt back to the mound by Noah Syndergaard, but left Reyes stranded when he struck out Rene Rivera swinging and got Curtis Granderson to pop out to third base.

Player Notes
One of a handful of "debut-nots" from 2016 - players who were called up to the big leagues but never got into a game - there is a bit of irony here with this transaction, since Garcia had received his first promotion on May 15, 2016, but did not get into a game before being sent bascvk down on May 19, replaced on the roster at that time by - wait for it- Nick Wittgren. After not having pitched at all for eight days, he landed on the DL shortly after his demotion and was out until August, contributing to his falling out of the '16 picture. A converted starting pitcher who started playing the game late, having grown up as a soccer player, he boasts what Baseball America considers the best changeup in the system and they also ranked him the No. 6 overall prospect in the Marlins' organization, thanks to a fastball in the mid-to-high 90's, a plus curveball and good control.
