Player Notes
Taken with the 27th overall pick in the 2013 draft out of Samford University and signed for a $1.8 million signing bonus, Ervin's eventual arrival has been tantalizing Reds fans thanks to his alluring combination of raw power and speed. Since signing, he's been working on learning to hit consistantly to all fields. He has plus bat speed and quick hands, and the summer before he was drafted earned the coveted title of Cape Cod League MVP in 2012. His 36 stolen bases led the organization in 2016 after he led the system in both home runs and runs scored (75) in 2015 despite having missed some time with a hamstring injury that year. Ervin becomes the seventh Reds player to make his big league debut this season (out of 38 debutantes total).
