|September 5, in a 9-6 loss to the Rockies. The fifth of seven pitchers, he tossed one-third of a perfect inning, needing just four pitches, three of them for strikes. He inherited two runners, neither of whom scored. Coming on as the third pitcher of the seventh inning with two on and two outs in relief of left-handed reliever Josh Osich, he got Trevor Story to line out to right to end the threat, end the inning, and end his night.|
|While Gomez needed just four pitches to record his big league debut, they were four pitches worth waiting for. Originally signed with the Rays back in 2010, he was out of organized baseball in 2015 and 2016 before signing with the Giants as a free agent last November. He got in a few innings in winter ball in his native Dominican Republic in 2016, posting a 3.38 ERA and fanning 16 in as many innings in seven games with Aguilas. His fastball has been clocked in the mid 90s and he'd posted a career 3.58 ERA through 2014 before being released by Tampa Bay that fall. Gomez was one of the Giants' final cuts out of spring training this past spring, being reassigned in April 1, so clearly there is a lot to like.|
