After that, Gorkys Hernandez popped out to the second baseman in foul territory. Joe Panik then drew a walk before Buster Posey struck out swinging on three pitches. Brandon Crawford then singled to ninth, at which point left-handed reliever Zach Duke came on for Alcantara and closed out the inning. |
Player Notes
Alcantara signed out of his native Dominican Republic at 17 and has soared through the minors since then in just a handful of seasons, not even making his Double-A debut until this past spring. With a fastball that has hit 100 and sits regularly in the mid-90s, he's added to his lanky build and improved the consistency of his delivery while adding in his curveball and changeup. He has a competitive nature but a calm, businesslike demeanor on the mound. In 2016, his first full season, he combined between Peoria (Class A) and Palm Beach (High A) to go 5-11 with a 3.96 ERA in 23 starts, striking out 153 batters while walking 59 in 122 2/3 innings, allowing just 103 hits for a .225 BAA. |
