Debut Details
September 5, in a 13-2 win against the Royals. The last of seven pitchers, he allowed one hit in one shutout inning, striking out one and also hitting a batter. Of 12 pitches, eight were for strikes. Starting the ninth inning in relief of right-handed reliever Alex Wilson, he struck out Drew Butera looking and got Cheslor Cuthbert to ground out to shortstop for two quick outs. After hitting Jorge Soler with a pitch, he gave up a single to right to Raul Mondesi Jr. before getting Alex Gordon to pop out to shortstop to end the game.

Player Notes
In his first season with the Tigers, the club shifted Alcantara to a full-time relief role and he has thrived. Used primarily though not exclusively as a starter with the Angels, he went 3-7 with a 4.30 ERA in 29 games, 20 of them starts, at Arkansas (Double-A) in 2016, striking out 79 while walking 57 in 111 innings and allowing 106 hits for a .255 BAA. In 2015 at Inland Empire (High A) he was 7-12 with a 5.63 ERA in 27 starts, striking out 125 and walking 58 in 136 innings, giving up 152 hits but still earning California League Pitcher of the Week honors twice during the summer. In 2014, he was 7-6 with a 3.81 ERA at Burlington (Class A), striking out 117 in 125 1/3 innings and walking 60 while limiting batters to 98 hits and a .219 BAA while being named to that summer's MLB Futures Game World Team.
