Overall Summary
Montgomery is every bit his 6'6" listed height with smooth, athletic movements on the mound. The combination of his FB and CH show the potential to be average-or-better offerings coming from extreme downhill plane, and they'll consistently keep big league hitters off balance. He lacks a consistent CB but showed feel for spinning the pitch, and if he can stay on top of it more consistently, it has the potential to play fringe-average. He controls the running game well, with consistently above-average 1.29-to-1.32 second release times. He's pitching to more contact in his limited Double-A innings, and he'll need to improve his CB and sequencing to get hitters out at the big league level consistently. He’ll benefit from some additional seasoning at Trenton for now, building his innings count, working on his curveball. If the CB can get to fringe-average and his sequencing improves, his arsenal should project to a role as a back-end starter in the big leagues.
