Prospect Spotlight

NOTES FROM THE FIELD, ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE:

  • XL frame, broad shoulders, thick throughout. Imposing size and very strong, but limited athleticism.
  • Stretch-only, clunky operation; big body with lots to sync up; quality and effectiveness of stuff hinges on how well he’s repeating.
  • FB 92-96; Above-avg FB, mid-90s heat with basic strikethrowing ability. More control than command, loose within the zone.
  • Cutter 87-90; Uses like a second pitch. Hard gloveside shape, late action on best ones, chance to finish above-avg.
  • CB 76-80; Wrinkles in for a third look. Loopy CB, loose spin, shows early and rolls.
  • Keeps FB and cutter around the plate in best sequences. Falls out of his delivery and sprays the zone at times. When his CB isn’t working, hard two-pitch mix lacks anything to slow the bat down.

SUMMARY: Big donkey with loud raw stuff; has moments where he looks like a setup guy, but ultimately don’t see the consistency here to profile him in high-leverage situations. Size and velocity will get him to big leagues in middle innings role.
